AFREDAC eLearning Curriculum for Clinical Trial Monitoring

Overview:

AFREDAC is developing a 12 weeks eLearning curriculum Clinical Trial Management and Monitoring in the African Context which is designed to empower African researchers with practical knowledge, skills, and digital resources for high-quality clinical research. This initiative aligns with global standards while contextualizing content to address the unique opportunities and challenges faced in African settings.

Why This Matters:

African researchers are at the forefront of transformative health innovations. Yet, local capacity for trial management, ethical oversight, and data integrity often faces systemic barriers. This course provides essential, Africa-centric training to strengthen research leadership, quality, and ethical rigor accelerating progress toward improved health outcomes across the continent.

Curriculum Highlights:

  • Foundations of Clinical Trials: History, relevance, and case studies in Africa
  • Trial Design & Protocol Development
  • Regulatory Frameworks & Ethics
  • Project Planning & Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Risk-Based Monitoring, Data Management, and Pharmacovigilance
  • Trial Close-Out, Reporting, and Career Development

Each module will be developed and delivered by experienced African trialists, with real-world examples and practical toolkits.

Contributor Opportunity:

We invite African and global experts in clinical research, trial monitoring, ethics, project management, and digital health to join as curriculum contributors. Contributors will:

  • Lead or co-lead a session during the eLearning series
  • Share resource materials or case studies (with credit)
  • Receive recognition and incentives through the AFREDAC platform’s innovative Ubuntu tokenomics model 
  • Train fellow African researchers
